Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return to The Mummy 25 years later

It's always a pleasure to hear that a new chapter is coming in a saga like The Mummy, one that defined an entire generation. It now has an official title, The Mummy: Book of the Dead, and it brings back the couple who made it unforgettable.

The Story

Universal Pictures hasn't revealed the plot yet, but it has shared one important detail: the story takes place more than two decades after the first films. This new chapter continues The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001), setting aside the third film from 2008. It is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo known as Radio Silence, from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.

The O'Connells Are Back

Brendan Fraser returns as Rick O'Connell and Rachel Weisz as Evelyn "Evy" Carnahan-O'Connell, the role she didn't play in the third film. John Hannah also returns as Jonathan Carnahan, along with Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay and Kevin J. O'Connor as Beni Gabor, even though his character died in the first film. Michael Johnston and Numan Acar join the cast in roles yet to be revealed.

Behind the Scenes

Filming began in early September 2026 in London and Morocco, and the first images from the set have already shown Fraser and Weisz together on screen again, 25 years later. Besides starring, Brendan Fraser is an executive producer, and the music will be composed by Brian Tyler.
