What I loved most about this movie was Ferruccio Lamborghini’s love of beauty. As the movie tells it, a woman’s beautiful eyelashes inspired the delicate details that frame the headlights of the Miura, for many the most beautiful car in the world.
The Story
From director Bobby Moresco, who also directed Maserati: The Brothers, comes the story of the man who went from building tractors to creating one of the most coveted cars on the planet. After World War II, Ferruccio returns to his hometown of Cento, Italy, and starts building tractors. Years later, after a slight from Enzo Ferrari, he decides to build a sports car capable of competing with him. That is how Automobili Lamborghini was born, in 1963.
The Miura, a Work of Art
The Miura was unveiled in 1966 and designed by Marcello Gandini in about three months. Its name comes from a famous breed of Spanish fighting bulls, and its “eyelashes” give the headlights an almost living gaze. To this day, it appears on lists of the most beautiful cars in history.
The Cast
Frank Grillo plays Ferruccio Lamborghini, with Romano Reggiani as the young Ferruccio. Gabriel Byrne plays Enzo Ferrari, his great rival, and Mira Sorvino plays Annita.
Behind the Scenes
Antonio Banderas and Alec Baldwin were originally chosen to play Lamborghini and Ferrari, but the roles ultimately went to Grillo and Byrne.
